Product Description / General uses
Tyvek® is the name given to a family of tough, durable sheet products manufactured by Dupont from pure 100% high density polyethylene (HDPE).
Tyvek® is formed first by spinning continuous strands of very fine interconnected fibres, and then bonding them together with heat and pressure. The result is a bright white, spunbonded sheet which combines a good printing surface with high opacity, chemical resistance, and toughness.
Tyvek® has no grain direction, is corona treated on both sides to improve ink adhesion and is coated with an antistatic agent to facilitate converting.
General uses
In the conservation sector Tyvek® is used extensively by museum and collection management professionals as a protective non-abrasive, spore resistant and dust proof barrier for textiles, furnishings, paintings and a wide variety of artefacts and object d'art. Tyvek® is used to support large items undergoing conservation treatments, to make protective enclosures and in the creation of labels to attach to artefacts in storage.
In the industrial sector Tyvek® is used in the building and construction industries as a lining material, and in the packaging and printing industries as a substrate to create particularly strong and resilient packaging and promotional accessories.
